Remember back in 2010 when 2K was going to reboot the XCOM franchise? Well forget that game for the most part as it is no longer the reboot as that honor has now gone to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. XCOM started out as a first person shooter and in now a third person tactical shooter.
The game has been renamed The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and will release August 20th for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 as originally planned. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will now be an origin story for the newly rebooted XCOM series. The game takes place in 1962 America, during the height of the Cold War. Tensions rise when aliens arrive and the XCOM agency have to act.
The XCOM organization is not the state of the art agency you remember from the PC games or even Enemy Unknown. A lot of the content shown off in 2010 and 2011 will still be in The Bureau, but now there is a higher focus on tactical gameplay. So if you were in love with the FPS reboot or the original XCOM gameplay, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will be sure to cater to both parties now.
Content for XCOM: Enemy Unknown is still rolling out this year and even a iPad version later on. So there is a chance of DLC for the two games together leading up to release late this Summer. Is it to late for this game to get re branded for a third time or are you still interested in the future of XCOM? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
