Ubisoft has released some new details and footage from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag multiplayer and some of its Co-op modes. The PS exclusive content was also detailed, and will be staring Aveline de Grandpré, the female protagonist of the PS Vita's Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation.
Assassin's Creed 4' will have 2 co-op modes: Discovery and Unleashed. Discovery mode will be a story-based mini-campaign, up to four players, where players will learn the basics of coop mechanics. Players will need to work as a team to complete increasingly difficult missions in order to accrue more time and bonuses. In Unleashed Mode players will try to attain as high a sequence as possible by lining up multi-kills and synchronised kills, defending chests, eliminating disguised enemies, kill "infected" enemies that can only be harmed once you've retrieved a package, and more.
Another major point of Assassin's Creed 4 Multiplayer is the new game mode, Gamelab. In this mode where players can tweak the parameters of the multiplayer as they please, offering more than 200 customisable elements, such as making pistols the only weapon or disables the scores for everything except killing. These customable modes can be shared with friends, favourited, uploaded to the community, and maybe even promoted by Ubisoft in-game, something similar to Little Big Planet.
Unfortunately, the game's multiplayer won't include naval warfare, as it would be impossible seeing as implementing it into single-player was already an arduous feat according to Tim Browne, Lead Multiplayer Game Designer. "You have to take into consideration that it took a very big dedicated team in Singapore about two-and-a-half years to do it for the solo [play], we've looked at it and we've considered it. We seriously considered it. We think it would be cool, but at the same time we tried it, and for technical reasons it's impossible."
In addition to this, the PS exclusive content coming to Assassin's Creed 4 was also detailed. This story will take around 1 hour to complete and will include three missions staring Aveline de Grandpré, the female protagonist of the PS Vita's Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation. Lead writer Darby McDevitt said "It's a ways forward so Aveline is a bit older, it's not directly related to the end of her story. If Assassin's Creed IV is like a novel, Aveline's missions are like a short story."
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be available on the 29th of October in North America and on the 1st of November in Europe for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U, with the PS4 and Xbox One versions following later.
