Asda has slashed the price of both the Premium and Basic Nintendo Wii U packages by £100 as they look to try and encourage sales of the platform.

The retailer had previously cut the price back in May, and HMV also did a price cut on the Premium Set. However, Asda are now selling the Premium Wii U for £199.99 and the Basic Wii U for £149.99.

The Nintendo Wii U has struggled to gain momentum since its launch at the end of 2012, with only 3.5 million reported to have been sold by the end of March 2013.

Many consumers have been put off by the lack of core games for the platform, but Nintendo are hoping to address this. Pikmin 3 releases in a few weeks and it will be joined by The Wonderful 101 before a load of third-party games like Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV and Batman Arkham Origins arrive.

There's also Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. Wii U and Super Mario 3D World on the horizon, plus Wii Fit U.
