Riot Games confirmed yesterday that a group of hackers managed to access around 120,000 transaction records that were stored on the servers of League of Legends. Usernames, real names, email addresses, passwords and Credit Card details were all accessed, admitted Riot Games.
However, users don't need to worry too much about it, all passwords and Credit Card details were both hashed and salted, said the publisher. Riot also revealed that the Credit Card details captured during this hack haven't been used since 2011, so payments made after this time are still safe.
"As a measure to make your accounts safer, within the next 24 hours we'll require players with accounts in North America to change their passwords to stronger ones that are much harder to guess. At such time, you'll be automatically prompted to change your password when you attempt to log in to the game. If you'd prefer, please click here to change your password now," said the publisher on its blog.
