In an exciting Pokémon themed Nintendo Direct, Nintendo President Iwata along with representatives of GameFreak and The Pokémon Company revealed a second set of starters for Pokémon X and Y. These starters will be none other than Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.

The game will begin slightly differently than in past installments. First, a friend of yours will ask you to choose between three Pokémon. These Pokémon will be Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Afterwards, you will meet with the Professor of Pokémon X and Y. He will ask you to choose from another set of Pokémon. It is within this set that you can choose from Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.

As if this were not enough fan-service, this Nintendo Direct also revealed that all three of the classic starter Pokémon can perform Mega Evolutions. Showing footage of these new transformations, Charizard will grow a third horn and wings under his wrists, Venusaur's "tree" and size increase while he also grows a flower on his forehead, and Blastoise also bulks up as well as grows another water cannon on each arm.

A few more details were discussed concerning how Mega Evolutions are performed. Using a black bracelet called the Mega Ring, players are able to activate the Mega Stones of their Pokémon. It was also hinted towards the end of Nintendo Direct, that every Pokémon in the game can perform a Mega Evolution and, because Mega Evolutions are exclusive to the Kanto Region, players will be involved in finding out the secrets of the Mega Evolutions.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS globally on October 12th.
