With only ten days left until the global release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, a second Mega Evolution has been revealed for the starter Pokémon Charizard called Mega Charizard X. With this being the second instance of a Pokémon having version-specific Mega Evolutions, it is very possible that there will be many more Pokémon that will follow this suit.
Unlike Mega Charizard Y, Mega Charizard X has ditched the yellow and orange color scheme for dark black and lots of blue. His wings are also noticeably smaller and have a more "feathery" appearance. With blue flames spilling from the sides of his mouth and spiked shoulders, Mega Charizard X will also change from a Fire/Flying type to a Fire/Dragon type. And while his species remains as a Flame Pokémon, his ability will change from Blaze to Tough Claws which increases the power of moves that involve direct contact. He will also be able to use the move Dragon Tail which not only forces a Pokémon to switch out, but it will also damage them.
While more evolutions are a great addition to any Pokémon title, perhaps the greatest news to come from this announcement is what was not spoken. Not only does the possibility exist for all of the Pokémon in Pokémon X and Y to have multiple Mega Evolutions, but perhaps for the first time ever choosing which version of a Pokémon game to play will actually impact the experience beyond catching one or two exclusive Legendary Pokémon.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will release simultaneously across the globe on October 12 on the Nintendo 3DS.
