Those who recently connected their 3DS to the internet may have noticed a new notification on the home screen. Unfortunately, this notification brings sad news concerning the Swapnote app.

After learning of the abuse of the SpotPass feature in Swapnote, Nintendo made the decision to end the SpotPass feature of the app on October 31st at 7 p.m. PT. Nintendo explained that they discovered that inappropriate material was being distributed to minors after exchanging their Friend Codes on online forums. After much discussion, Nintendo decided that the best solution was to remove SpotPass from Swapnote altogether. In order to prevent other abuses like this from occurring, Nintendo stated that they will bring more awareness to their customers about the Parental Control features in hopes of stopping events like this from happening again.

Do you feel that Nintendo made the right decision to stop inappropriate material spreading to minors or is there a better way to end this type of behavior? Let us know you thoughts in the comments below.
