Sony Computer Entertainment has proudly declared that the PS4, which launched on Friday in North America, has managed to sell more than one million units during its first 24 hours on sale.
These sales figures mean the PS4 has now become the fastest selling PlayStation console in history, beating out the PlayStation 2.
Despite this huge landmark, Andrew House, the President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, was keen to look forward to the future.
"Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29," said House. "We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."
Sony had previously announced that they were intending to sell 3 million consoles worldwide by the end of 2014, with an additional 2 million being sold following the Japanese release of the console towards the end of February.
