Microsoft has announced that the launch of the Xbox One has smashed their previous sales record for a console launch, which was set by the Xbox 360.
Within 24 hours, the Xbox One, which launched in 13 different territories around the world, managed to sell more than one million units - an impressive feat.
"Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers," said Microsoft in a statement to the media.
When looking at the UK market, sales of the Xbox One accounted for 80 percent of all hardware sold in the UK throughout the previous week.
"We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world," said Xbox's corporate VP of marketing and strategy Yusuf Mehdi.
To compare, the PS4 also managed to sell in excess of one million units during its first 24 hours on sale. However, the PS4 was only released in North America. It will release across Europe this Friday.
