Microsoft has acquired the rights to the Gears of War franchise, following the purchase of the IP from Epic Games.
Gears of War appeared exclusively on the Xbox 360 last generation and will now continue to appear exclusively on Microsoft platforms following this acquisition. As part of the move, development of future Gears of War titles will be handed over to Black Tusk, a new development studio under the Microsoft umbrella.
To help with the transition, Rod Fergusson has been hired to work at Black Tusk. Fergusson was the executive producer of Gears of War 3 and said "I've been privileged to work on a lot of great games with a lot of great teams, but 'Gears' has had the most impact on me professionally and personally, so this really feels like a homecoming. I can't wait to share more with you all soon."
In recent times, Fergusson helped Irrational Games finish off BioShock Infinite. He also helped to form a new studio with 2K Games.
