Sega has revealed the next Sonic the Hedgehog title, Sonic Boom, which is currently in development for 3DS and Wii U. In order to deliver a more 'fresh approach that will be at once both familiar and new', Sonic Boom won't be developed by Sonic Team alone, but with Big Red Button Entertainment and Sanzaru Games as well.
Sonic Boom is the 3rd title in the exclusive deal done between Sega and Nintendo. The title will take advantage of both consoles' hardware, featuring cooperative play and introducing new game mechanics such as the new 'Enerbeam', that will allow players to explore the game's world in unique ways.
The title will be slightly different between both platforms, with each game having its own environments and enemies. The Wii U version is being developed by Big Red Button Entertainment and will focus more on combat and exploration, while the 3DS version is being developed by Sanzaru Games, but no details regarding this version were revealed.
Alongside this new title, Sega has announced a brand new toy line and a CG television series based on Sonic Boom. The CG series is already in production and will consist in 52 episodes which are 11 minutes each in length. They will take place after the events of the game.
A release date for the game has yet to be revealed. You can watch the announcement trailer below.
