Just moments ago, Nintendo aired its Smash Bros. themed Nintendo Direct. Though it discussed many elements of the game, it did not fail to make mention of some brand new Assist Trophies.
The new trophies came from games that were released as far back as the Atari era. They are as follows: King Kihunter, Mother Brain, and Dark Samus from Metroid, Pseudo-Palutena from Kid Icarus, Midna and Fi from The Legend of Zelda, a Nintendog, Chain Chomp, Isabelle from Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tiki in her Fire Emblem: Awakening design, Elec Man from Mega Man, and Player 1 and 2 from Pong. Most of these trophies were shown in their unawakened form so their attacks are mostly unknown.
Masahiro Sakarai made it a point to talk about the FPS, or frames per second, that the Assist Trophies operate within. While playable characters from the roster play at 60 FPS, the trophies are only at 30 FPS. While this may seem like a bad thing, it is likely that the playable characters are faster for the sake of competitive play and not appearance.
Super Smash Bros. releases this Summer on the Nintendo 3DS and this Winter on the Nintendo Wii U.
