In 2012, the Australian government created a program called the Australian Interactive Games Fund whose purpose was to distribute $20m to local video game development studios. However, after releasing its 2014-2015 budget proposal, the bigwigs of Australia have decided to pull the plug.
$10 million has already been used towards supporting game developers, but the Government now intends to absorb the remaining $10m to assist with new budget and policy priorities. At this stage, no detail was offered in the 2014-2015 budget plan as to what this would be spent on.
The closing of the Australian Interactive Games Fund and transfer of $10m will not take effect until July 1st.
