After the announcement back in September that Microsoft will buy out Minecraft developer Mojang for $2.5 billion, Microsoft has officially completed the buyout as of today, and now own the Swedish developer.
Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer stated that "It's official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family, We're excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community." via twitter today. Microsoft has gone on record and stated that they will continue to support Minecraft on competing platforms.
Markus 'Notch' Persson also mentioned via his twitter account that "I left the mojang office for the last time, and didn't properly say bye because everything is strange." "I don't even know what a fitting bye is. So I just left like it's a normal day, with normal things happening."
What the future holds for Minecraft remains unknown with the idea of Minecraft 2 still being considered. A mystery about what Microsoft will do with Minecraft will have to linger on for a little while yet. What do you think will happen to Mojang and Minecraft? Let us know in the comments below.
