Payday 2 will be released on PS4 and Xbox One in June, 505 Games and Overkill have announced. Dubbed Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, this re-release of the cooperative heist game will deliver a more detailed and complete experience than ever seen before on consoles.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will run at native 1080p, however, it won't hit 60fps. The Crimewave Edition includes all post-launch content and updates that was released for the PC version of Payday 2 over the past year. In addition, the Crimewave Edition will also add new weapons, characters and masks.

"Since we released Payday [2] it's received over 52 updates on PC. It's been a hell of a ride. We've updated the game plenty of times bringing new content, free content and paid content," said Almir Listo, the game's producer.

"The great thing with the Crimewave Edition is that we're finally able to bring as much as we possibly can of it to consoles. What that means is a year's worth of DLC included in one box. We're not doing anything nasty where we say here's the standard Payday 2 package and at launch here's the 20 DLCs you can buy. We're basically saying here's the full experience that will continue to be updated with free content and paid DLC as we go along, but this is what Payday 2 is at this day and age.

"Both versions will be 1080p [up from 720p]. We can't say for definite it will be 60fps as we're still in testing, but it will definitely be an improved experience. I can't give a specific number. We're pushing it as high as we possibly can. Say hypothetically Payday 2 was 30fps roughly "“ between 25fps and 30fps on [Xbox 360 and PS3] - then I would say at least 35/40fps [on PS4 and Xbox One]. But I would rather have our community be surprised by the improved fps than disappointed by us saying, 'Yeah, it's going to be 35fps'.

"What people have to realise is that, hypothetically saying, if we weren't able to go 60fps, we could do that, but that would mean we could only show four enemies at a time on-screen. And that isn't what Payday is about. Payday is about the onslaught of police officers coming at you at the same time, 20-30 rushing you. And that's something people have to take note of when they do those comparisons."

Unfortunatelly, due to the technical difficulties, players won't be able to transfer their progress from PS3 or Xbox 360 to current-gen. To compensate, Overkill is considering some kind of upgrade program, which might go from discounts for those that purchased the game on PS3/Xbox 360 to exclusive bonus. For now, we will have to wait for more details on this matter.

Players that pre-order the digital version of the game will receive a 25% discount and the Hard Time Loot Bag. The latter includes several in-game items and cash.
