Near the end of Electronic Art's press conference the publisher brought Mirror's Edge Catlalyst on stage and revealed the game's release date. The game will be available on the 23rd of February in North America and on the 26th of February in Europe.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will take place before the events of the original game and tells the origin story of protagonist Faith. Players will see the rise of Faith from a regular young woman to a heroine who opens the eyes of an entire city.
Unlike its predecessor, Catalyst's story won't be split into levels. Instead, players will be able to free-roam an open-world environment without any loading times. Despite this change, time trials will make a return in this game, allowing players to challenge other players' scores.
"When we set out to bring Mirror's Edge to a new generation of gamers, we knew we wanted to deliver on the potential of the first game "“ building an iconic heroine in Faith, bringing a beautiful, stylised world to life, and delivering fluid first person action. In Mirror's Edge Catalyst, you will get to feel what it's like to glide across the skyline of the city. You will get to know what it feels like to be a projectile who plows through your opponents. And you will get to experience Faith's story," said Sara Jansson, senior producer at DICE.
Those that pre-order the game will receive the Combat Runner Kit or Speed Runner Kit. Both feature in-game items, a Runner Tag to stand out in the leaderboards, and a background to customize a player's Screen Hacks. The difference is that the Speed Runner Kit contents will be more themed about speed.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be available for PS4, Xbox one and PC.
