Insomniac has released today two trailers of the upcoming Ratchet & Clank title on PS4. Originally developed to be a re-imagined version of the original Ratchet & Clank, the game is now a completely "new game, with elements based on the original".
"We knew early on that we didn't want to just up-res Ratchet & Clank for PS2," said Insomniac on PlayStation Blog. "We started out thinking of Ratchet & Clank (PS4) as a "re-imagining" of the 2002 original, revised to tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet's origin story as seen in the film. We envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 titles while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games."
"We ended up with a new game, with elements based on the original "“ but now with modern controls, several new planets, new and updated gameplay segments, all-new Clank gameplay, all new boss fights, new flight sequences, and more, all constructed to take advantage of the PS4's graphical prowess. Throw in James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, and you have a new beginning."
The "out-of-this-world arsenal" in each game has always been one of the series strongest points, offering players a large variety of weapons and unique gizmos. The PS4 version of Ratchet & Clank will feature weapons from the original game, fan-favourites from the Ratchet & Clank Future series, and completely new weapons. One of these new weapons is the Pixelizer, which transforms enemies into explosive 8-bit pixels.
Ratchet & Clank launches for PS4 in Spring 2016. Those that pre-order the game will receive the Bouncer from Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked & Loaded, a bomb that releases smaller homing bombs that bounce towards targets.
