Shenmue 3 was originally announced to release exclusively in digital format, but thanks to the success of its Kickstarter Ys Net has now confirmed that, in addition to PC, PS4 is also getting a physical release of the game.
"This is one of the most requested items on the list, and we are very happy to be able to include the Shenmue 3 PS4 Kickstarter Backer's Edition as a Reward," said Ys Net in a Kickstarted update. "If you are a Shenmue fan and PS4 gamer, this is the reward to have to commemorate the occasion!"
All those who pledged $60 or more will have the option to choose a physical PS4 copy. Once the Kickstarter ends, on the 18th of July, a survey will be sent out to everyone in order to confirm the platform of choice, where players can pick between a PS4 physical copy, a PS4 digital copy, a PC physical copy or a PC digital copy.
Shenmue 3's Kickstarter campaign became the fastest campaign ever to achieve its goal, reaching its $2 million objective in less than 12h. Yu Suzuki added stretch goals soon after the announcement, but he assures that he won't be disappointed if the Kickstarter doesn't reach the $10 million stretch goal.
"No I won't be. I am grateful that there's another chance for a new Shenmue. I will make what I can within the budget from your money," Suzuki responded when asked if the Kickstarter ends up failing the $10 million target. If $10 million is achieved, Suzuki and Ys Net promise that Shenmue 3 will deliver a "true open world" experience.
At the time of writing, the Kickstarter is now standing at $4,419,882.
