The price of the Nintendo 2DS will drop from its current $129.99 to $99.99 on the 30th of August, Nintendo has announced. This price drop applies to the bundle that comes with a digital version of Mario Kart 7.
"At a suggested retail price of $99.99, Nintendo 2DS is an even more attractive introductory option for first-time gamers," said Scott Moffitt, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Nintendo of America. "The new lower-priced hardware combined with the strong lineup of new games launching this year and arguably the best library of games in this generation makes it a great time to be a Nintendo fan."
With several great titles still coming this year, such as Little Battlers eXperience, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon and The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Nintendo is hoping to boost the sales of its handheld platform. Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that there are no plans for a price cut in European territories at the moment.
