Shadwen, a stealth action game developed by Frozenbyte, will release on PS4 and PC in May, the developer has announced.
Shadwen is an assassin on a quest to kill the king who has a chance encounter with an orphaned girl, Lily. The girl has been caught stealing and Shadwen decides to help her out of the precarious situation. She follows Shadwen on her dangerous journey, but when the ruthless guards get too close, Shadwen must take action right in front of Lily's eyes.
The objective is to remain undetected, otherwise the ruthless guards will kill you on sight. Throughout the game players will have the option to play either lethally or non-lethally, either moving through the environment undetected or killing the guards through a variety of manners. The story will be different depending on the players' choice to kill or not to kill.
However, the game features a few mechanics that make the game bit more interesting and strategic. For example, you are can rewind time and experiment different ways to kill your enemies, which allows you to determine what choices should you make. In addition, time stands still when you aren't moving Shadwen, something that gives you the opportunity to think wisely on what should be your next move.
The movement of your character and the physics also play a huge role here, as you traverse the medieval city with your grappling hook and perform acrobatic skills. You can even use the grappling hook to drag and topple objects, making possible deaths look accidental. Frozenbye describes it as a game that offers "lot of room for experimentation and pretty much anything can work".
Shadwen will be available for $14.55 on PC. A price for the PS4 version has yet to be revealed.
