Koei Tecmo's Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey is set to release early next month in North America and Europe, and the publisher has released some new information and screenshots detailing the game's battle system.
The second entry in the "˜Mysterious' saga of the long-running RPG series, Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey follows the adventures of the enthusiastic Firis Mistlud. After spending her entire life in an isolated town, Firis learns of the Alchemy Exam and decides to set off on a grand journey to discover the mysteries that life has to offer. In the game's vast new world, towns, environments and other locations reach up to ten times the size of those in Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. With a host of new gameplay features and so much to explore, the element of choice plays a bigger role in Atelier Firis than ever before, and players are able to switch freely between three narrative paths that encapsulate the key themes of the Atelier series "“ Alchemy, Combat and Character relationships.
Firis' journey will take her through beautiful and unexplored regions with unexpected surprises, often forcing her and her friends into battle. In battle, each character has the ability to use unique standard and special attacks, as well as supporting items. if players combine their skills properly, they can take out enemies more quickly. Chaining abilities fills the Linkage Gauge which ultimately leads to powerful Chain Burst attacks, where all party members get to interlink their moves to deal devastating attacks to their foes and result in an impressive finishing blow.
Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey also allows the use of sub-weapons for the first time in the Atelier series. In addition to their main weapon, each character is capable of equipping two types of sub-weapons, each with different skill effect and different types of damage.
Atelier Firis: The Alchemist And The Mysterious Journey releases for PS4, PC and PS Vita, on the 7th of March in North America and on the 10th of March in Europe. Those who pre-order the game at Amazon, Best Buy, EB Games or GameStop will unlock two adorable costumes that provide Firis with useful bonuses: the Resort Vacationcostume which increases the chances of finding high quality materials for use in synthesis, and the Wonderland outfit which decreases the time it takes for synthesis and fast traveling between landmarks.
