PS3 To Be Discontinued In Japan Soon

The PlayStation 3 launched in Japan and North America in November 2006, and in Europe in March 2007. Despite its sucessor releasing worldwide in 2013, the console remained popular until recently, specially in its Japanese home turf where many recent games were still released on both platforms.

However, the PS3's long cycle is coming to an end, as Sony has announced that production is going to end soon in Japan. On to the official PlayStation Japan website, the page for the PS3 500GB model, the only remaining model in production in Japan, mentions that "shipments are scheduled to end soon", meaning the end of the console's production in the country.

While there's no information on when the console will be discontinued in the western market, taking in consideration that the PS3's production is ending soon in Japan, and has already been discontinued in New Zealand, it's likely that the same will be happening in the rest of the world in the upcoming months.
