Overwatch Game Of The Year Edition Announced, Free Weekend And 1st Anniversary Event Revealed

Blizzard Entertainment announced that its competitive shooter Overwatch is getting a Game of the Year Edition. To celebrate the game's 1st anniversary, a "Overwatch Anniversary" event will kick off next week along with a free weekend across all platforms.

The Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition releases digitally on the 23rd of May and includes the following bonus items:

  • 10 Loot Boxes with random items such as credits, skins, emotes, poses voice lines, sprays and highlight intros.
  • Mercy’s wings for Diablo 3 players
  • Tracer for Heroes of the Storm
  • Hero Skins: Vintage skins for Blackwatch Reyes, Strike-Commander Morrison, Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Phara, and Slipstream Tracer.
  • StarCraft 2 in-game Portraits of Bastion, Tracer, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier: 76, and Winston.
  • Overwatch-themed Hearthstone Card Back
  • Baby Winston pet to use in World of Warcraft
  • Overwatch-themed card back for Hearthstone

As for the "Overwatch Anniversary" event, it will run May 23 through June 12. Although details on the event were revealed close to launch, it will probably include new emotes, skins, voice lines, and more to unlock, just like in previous events.

PS4, Xbox One and PC players will be able to play Overwatch for free from May 26 through May 29. Players will have access to the full roster and all maps including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the Arcade modes. All progress will carry to the full game.
