Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XV's Multiplayer Expansion 'Comrades' will have a closed online beta on Xbox One and PS4 next month.

Available from August 3rd to August 8th, the closed online test for the 'Comrades' Expansion will be carried out simultaneously across all regions worldwide, allowing players to create their own custom avatars and join together with up to 3 others to participate in exciting multiplayer quests to bring the Light back to Lucis.

The beta will allow players to create, control, and save up to eight avatars, while the full version lets players develop avatars using experience gained from defeating enemies and completing quests. Noctis, Gladiolus, Prompto, and Ignis will be playable in the final version of the expansion.

The beta includes a base camp and a custom tutorial, while the full expansion will feature a full fledged city for players to explore. In terms of weapons, the beta will feature katanas, clubs, daggers, and shurikens, with the attack patterns of each weapon being different compared to Noctis. The final version will include more weapons, including polearms, crossbows, and shield. Weapons come with preset abilities and experience points, and can be leveled up by meeting certain conditions.

Players can experience three different quests, each split in three stages, in the beta. All players will be matched online in the test version. The final version will feature quests with storylines as well as singleplayer quests. You can join up to three other players online or fight alongside three AI companions.

Only those that purchased Final Fantasy XV's Season Pass and have PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold Membership will be able to join the closed beta. Unfortunately, progress in the beta won't carry over to the final version.
