When Capcom and Marvel announced Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds in April at their annual Captivate event in Hawaii, fans were ecstatic getting another game in the series after ten long years since the original release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Gaming Union got the chance to try out the game on the show floor at E3 2010, and from what we can see Capcom has yet another winner on their hands.
For those who have never played a Marvel vs. Capcom game before, the series revolves around Capcom and Marvel characters duking it out in 3-on-3 matches, with an emphasis on quick, and in many cases, extremely over-the-top combos.
The controls in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are similar to previous games, with the expected light, medium and heavy buttons, but unlike the second game, the fourth button is called an "exchange" button, which lets the player either launch their opponent into the air or slam them into the ground if they are already airborne. For experienced players this system can be abused quite nicely by switching out between characters if the exchange button presses are timed exactly, leading to insane combos and massive damage to your opponent's characters.
The build shown off on the show floor only included the ten characters that have been currently revealed, including long-time favorites such as Iron Man, Morrigan and Wolverine, as well as newcomers such as Deadpool and Dante (Devil May Cry 3 version). While some of the character seemed more polished than others, such as Deadpool, the developers have stated that some of the characters are further along than others and everyone will be fine-tuned graphically by the game's release.
Capcom currently has a Spring 2011 release date set for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with no word on an arcade release.
